Privacy policy
Effective date: July 4, 2026 · Last updated: July 4, 2026
Stories With Me makes personalized books for children. Because of that, we handle two kinds of information with very different sensitivity: ordinary information about the adults who buy from us, and information about the children those books are made for. This policy explains both, and gives the child-specific details their own section.
This policy applies to storieswithme.com, trystorieswithme.com, and our companion app, and to the orders, previews, and account features offered through them. It does not apply to third-party sites we link to.
Who we are
Stories With Me LLC, doing business as Stories With Me, 55 Mascoma St, Lebanon, NH 03766. Questions or requests: hello@storieswithme.com.
Information we collect
From you, as the account holder or buyer:
- Contact and account details — your name, email address, and sign-in details.
- Order and delivery details — billing and shipping addresses, the dedication or gift message you write, and order history.
- The gift recipient's email address, if you provide it, which we use only to send the companion-app invitation.
- Payment information — processed by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers.
- Your messages to us, and your marketing preferences.
About a child, which you provide as the parent or legal guardian, and only with your consent:
- The child's first name and the personalization details you provide (such as gender or pronouns and hair color).
- A photo you upload, and the illustrated likeness we create from it.
- If you use our companion app, your child's date of birth and any developmental milestones you choose to record (the "Growth Record").
Automatically, when you use the Sites:
- Device and usage data — IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and similar analytics.
- Cookies and similar technologies (see the Cookie & Tracking Notice). Our advertising and analytics tools track the adult shopper's activity; they do not collect or transmit a child's photo, name, or other child-specific information.
We do not intentionally collect special categories of data (such as health or precise geolocation) beyond what is described here.
How we use information
- To create the preview or book you request — including generating and printing the personalized illustration.
- To maintain any Growth Record you choose to keep.
- To process orders, take payment, fulfill, and provide customer service.
- To send you service messages and, if you opt in, marketing about our products. You can unsubscribe from marketing at any time.
- To operate, secure, and improve the Sites, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with law.
We rely on your consent for marketing and for all use of a child's information, and on our legitimate business interests and contractual necessity for the rest.
Children's Personal Information
This section governs information about a child and controls if it conflicts with anything else in this policy. We treat this information in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Our service is purchased and used by adults for their children. Children do not create accounts, shop, or use the Sites. We collect a child's information from you — the child's parent or legal guardian or, for gift orders, a buyer acting with the parent's or guardian's express permission — never from the child directly, and only with that consent.
What we collect about a child: first name; the personalization details you provide (such as gender or pronouns and hair color); an uploaded photo and the illustrated likeness we create from it; and, if you use our companion app, your child's date of birth and any developmental milestones you record.
How we obtain your consent. Before a child's photo is used, we ask you to confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian (or have the parent's or guardian's express permission) and to consent to the use described here:
- When you request a free preview, you confirm your authority and consent on the preview form.
- When you place an order, you consent at checkout. Because a purchase requires your payment information, it also serves as verifiable parental consent.
How we use a child's information. Solely to create, illustrate, and print the preview or book you request, and to maintain any Growth Record you keep. We do not use it to train, develop, or improve any artificial-intelligence model; we do not sell it; and we do not use it for third-party or targeted advertising.
Our AI illustration provider. To turn a photo into an illustration, we send it to a third-party AI image provider that acts as our service provider under a written agreement. That agreement bars the provider from using the photo to train AI or for any purpose other than creating your illustration. The provider may briefly retain the photo to operate and secure its service; we direct deletion as soon as it is no longer needed. We use the photo only to generate an artistic illustration — not to identify or recognize your child or to build a biometric profile of anyone.
Retention. We delete an uploaded photo after your order is fulfilled — within 30 days of delivery at the latest, and sooner if you ask — and we delete free-preview photos and the preview images made from them within 30 days. We keep the finished illustration as part of your order record so we can reprint. Any Growth Record you create is kept while your account is active so we can provide it over time; you can delete it at any point, and we delete it when you close your account.
Your rights as a parent. At any time you may review the information we hold about your child, correct it, delete it, withdraw your consent, or tell us to stop collecting further information — by emailing hello@storieswithme.com or using your account controls. If you withdraw consent we stop further use, although we cannot recall a book already printed and shipped. We may ask you to verify your identity as the parent before acting on a request.
How we share information
We are not in the business of selling personal information, and we never sell or share a child's information for advertising. We disclose information only as follows:
- Service providers who process information on our behalf under contract, limited to what their role requires — including our AI illustration provider (creating illustrations), our print-and-fulfillment provider (printing and shipping your book), our e-commerce platform and hosting providers, our payment processor, our cloud storage and database providers, and our email provider.
- Legal and safety — to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our terms, or protect rights, safety, and property.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
- Adult shopper advertising and analytics — we use cookies and pixels relating to adults' activity on our storefront for marketing. Where state law treats this as a "sale" or "sharing," we honor opt-outs (see Your privacy choices and rights and the Cookie & Tracking Notice). This never involves a child's information.
Data retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law: child photos as described in the Children's section; finished illustrations and order records for as long as needed to support reprints, warranty, tax, and accounting obligations; account and Growth Record data while your account is active; and marketing data until you unsubscribe. We maintain a written retention schedule and delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed.
Data security
We maintain a written information-security program with administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and limited retention of children's photos. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify you and regulators of incidents as required by law.
Your privacy choices and rights
Everyone: you can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any message, and you can ask us about the information we hold.
Cookies and targeted advertising: you can manage cookies and exercise "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" choices as described in the Cookie & Tracking Notice. We honor browser Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as opt-out requests where required.
State privacy rights (including California, Colorado, and other states with consumer privacy laws): depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; to opt out of "sale," "sharing," or targeted advertising and certain profiling; and to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share the personal information of any consumer we know to be under 16. To exercise a right, email hello@storieswithme.com; we will verify your request and respond within the time the law requires, and you may appeal a decision by replying to our response. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows.
California "Shine the Light": California residents may request information about disclosures to third parties for their direct marketing; we do not make such disclosures.
The companion app
Our Growth Record and companion features are designed for parents, not children — milestones are recorded by you, the parent or guardian. We do not direct these features at children or invite children to use them.
International users
The Sites are intended for users in the United States. We do not target the Sites at individuals in the EU/EEA, UK, or other regions with separate data-protection regimes, and you should not use the Sites if you are located there.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make a material change, we will post the updated policy with a new date and, where required, notify you and obtain consent before applying new uses to information already collected.
